I love how people ASSUME Windows share, file services are always at the center of issues, but in reality... you are using many layers that is the problem.

 

You have a guest OS, running Windows 2008, with shares, running NFS services, shared out over a vSwitch, through an ESX host to create a shared datastore...

 

That's too many layers... Why not setup a physical host as a simple NFS storage, rather than using a VM for this purpose.  That would make this immenently less complex and probably much more reliable....
