Problems uploading virtual machines to ESXi 4.1.0

Hi,

We have the following configuration at work:

- 2x VMware ESXi 4.1.0 servers (Build 348481)

- VMware vSphere Client Version 4.1.0 (Build 345043)

- VMware Workstation 9.0.1 build-894247

ESX server 1 has two datastores:

- Datastore1: Capacity 1.64TB, Free 376.74GB

- Datastore2: Capacity 1.09TB, Free 557.60GB

ESX server 2 has two datastores:

- Datastore1: Capacity 1.64TB, Free 115.78GB

- Datastore2: Capacity 1.09TB, Free 847.84GB

The servers are located on two ProLiant 380 servers with internal SAS raided drives.  Each server has two datastores.  We generally will use VMware Workstation to set up and configure new virtual servers, and then upload them to the server once they've been fully set up.  In addition, each of us that upload images to the server are set up with administrative rights within the VMware server roles.

This has historically worked without a problem; however, as of a few days ago, we've started receiving "Upload failed: No datastores found on target." when uploading them to the server.  Here's the process we've been using to upload them:

1) Create the VM locally within Workstation 9.  Make sure its hardware compatibility is set to "Workstation 6.5-7.x virtual machine" so it's compatible with ESXi 4.x.

2) Once it's been created, make sure the VM is off, right-click on the VM and select "Manage -> Upload..."

3) Select the destination server, which appears in the list.

4) Next, select the destination location for the virtual machine which appears in the tree.

5) At this point, the wizard finds both ESX hosts and auto populates the drop-down box with both hosts.  When each host is selected, its two corresponding datastores are listed in the listbox below.  I have verified that the datastores listed match those belonging to each host.

6) Select a destination host and datastore, and rename the VM if desired.

7) Click Finish.

At this point, I receive a status window that states, "Uploading <VM> to <server>", which sits for about 10 seconds; after which, I receive the following error message:

"Upload failed: No datastores found on target."

I've tried to look online for a solution, but I can't find anything related to this error message.  Does anyone know why we might be receiving this error, or what we might need to do to track down the source of the problem in order to correct it??

Thanks!

-John
