SSL is not issue, I deployed it , even in my setup we see certificate of 2012.  I was able to register it fine.

So how  you are providing credential of vCenter server while registering this appliance to vCEnter server.

VC : 10.0.10.1

Useraccount : Domain\username

password : password

Can  you check as I mention above.
