Hello,
I am seeking some thoughts on the optimum way to configure the chargeback Cost Model & Templates.
We currently have a cost model which charges for allocated disk at all times and CPU & RAM when VMs are powered on only. We then apply this cost model to vCloud director OrgVDCs in order to bill & charge for Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) clients.
Additionally, we have a cost template which has a rate factor for CPU, disk & RAM which is used to provide discount to our resellers.
With the advent of vCloud 5.1, it is now possible to have multiple disk tiers within the same OrgVDC. Reading the chargeback manual, it seems that in order to charge these disk tiers differently, then we should apply rate factors to the them.
Question 1 - if I have a rate factor applied to the disk tier AND a rate factor applied via a cost template to a OrgVDC (as well as the cost model applied to the OrgVDC) - how does chargeback handle the multiple rate factors? Eg: does it use them both (rate1 x rate2 x cost) OR does it prefer one rate factor (like the highest) OR somthing else?
Questions 2 : How are other vCloud service providers charging with disk tiers and resellers? Any thoughts on how I should do this differently?
Many thanks
