Hi,
We're playing around with Server 2012 and we want to explore the Dedupe function. We have an existing Server 2008 R2 VMware machine with two hard drives (one OS and one file store) and I want to detach the second drive containing the files store and reattach that to the Server 2012 machine.
So far I've:
1. Cloned the existing 2008 R2 vm.
2. Migrated both machines so they reside on the same datastore.
3. Detached the second drive, moved it into the same folder as the 2012 vm via SSH and reattached in the C# client.
4. Powered up 2012 and this is where I'm stuck.
I'm in File and Storage Services and I'm not seeing the drive. Am I going to have to do something crazy like convert the VMDK to VHD?
I've checked the file permissions on the VMDK and they're the sam as the existing -flat.vmdk containing the OS.
Things I've checked:
Virtual Device Node SCSI (1:0)
SCSI Controller Type: LSI Logic SAS - changed to LSI Logic Parallel and I was forced to reinstall the OS? Change it back and it boots fine.
My next step is to consider an inplace upgrade of the OS but I'd prefer to avoid that and clean install.
Any ideas? I'm pretty sure I'm able to do this in 2008 R2 with minimal hassle.
