Hello,

I am currently having the same issue.

I'm running a kernel 3.3.0 on RHEL6 when compiling the vmware tools (4.1 and 5.0), vmware is not able to found some files such as :

CC [M]  /tmp/vmware-root/modules/vsock-only/linux/af_vsock.o
/tmp/vmware-root/modules/vsock-only/linux/af_vsock.c:105:28: erreur: linux/smp_lock.h : Aucun fichier ou dossier de ce type
make[2]: *** [/tmp/vmware-root/modules/vsock-only/linux/af_vsock.o] Erreur 1
make[1]: *** [_module_/tmp/vmware-root/modules/vsock-only] Erreur 2
make[1]: quittant le répertoire « /applis/src/linux-3.3 »
make: *** [vsock.ko] Erreur 2
make: quittant le répertoire « /tmp/vmware-root/modules/vsock-only »
The VM communication interface socket family is used in conjunction with the VM
communication interface to provide a new communication path among guests and
host.  The rest of this software provided by VMware Tools is designed to work
independently of this feature.  If you wish to have the VSOCK feature  you can
install the driver by running vmware-config-tools.pl again after making sure
that gcc, binutils, make and the kernel sources for your running kernel are
installed on your machine. These packages are available on your distribution's
installation CD.

Still looking for the source of the issue with no luck until now.
