Well, vCenter cannot manage ESXi free edition to begin with. If the host is in evaluation mode that's another story, but evaluation mode ≠ free edition.

NSX ESG inline loadbalancer
Hello all, We've a NSX setup without any vxlan's. We're planning to use Load balancer in inline mode.
* I configured my ESG with 2 interfaces (uplink connected to DMZ & Internal connected to server VLAN). Gateway of ESG is set to Default GW of DMZ VLAN
* Configured LB Virtual server, pools and other required config. LB IP is configured as uplink interface IP
Issue:
* I'm not able to reach both uplink and Internal interfaces from any other VLANs. However from ESG, i'm able to reach devices in any VLAN.
* However when i disable Internal Interface i'm able to reach Uplink Interface from any VLAN.
Lost here, any inputs?
Thanks

Re: vSAN VOlumes - Appear Read Only.
JM,
Rebooting a host won't take it out of MM (vSAN or vSphere MM), even if you do it twice - please share the output of this run on any host in the cluster via SSH:
# cmmds-tool find -t NODE_DECOM_STATE
# esxcli vsan cluster get
# df -h
If for whatever reason you don't want to post the output here online (not that UUIDs are of much use to anyone nefarious anyway! but domain/DNS names maybe) you can PM me the output.
Screenshot/copy of the error message in Proactive VM creation test may help here also.

Re: Does CPU Overclock work?
Hi,
I don't think so it is supported as per below kb article :
It says :
Overclocking improves performance but may result in instability. VMware does not recommend overclocking.
I hope this helps.
Re: Cannot synchronize host
My solution was log onto the host and restart the services with next command: service vmware-vpxa restart
Re: Reset root password
Hello Jhyiesla,
Logon using the same user account to the Webclient of the vCenter, you should get an prompt to reset the password.
If it dose not work, you need to logon using SSO admin user and reset the password.
If the user is an Active Directory account, you will need to reset at AD level.
If the user account is an vSphere SSO user, you can change the password policy in vCenter advanced options, when logged in as SSO admin. This would be applicable for all the SSO domain accounts.
Assistance on Home Lab
Hi all, I need to make a home lab but my resources are not so good.
Scenario:
I need to install 2 Esxi with Fault Tolerance, Vcenter, Openfiler, Windows Server 2008 (AD, DNS), SQUID, Windows 7 Client and Veeam Backup.
My resources are 1 Desktop and 1 Notebook:
Desktop:
Core i7 3rd gen, 16 gb Ram. 512 SSD
Notebook: Core i7 5th gen, 16 gb Ram and 512 SSD.
Ive tried starting with Esxi 5.0 but it stucks a lot, maybe I am assigning the resources in a wrong way.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Re: Assistance on Home Lab
Sorry, that's just not going to be near enough resources to build your wishlist of infrastructure. You either need more resources or less things to build out.
Re: Assistance on Home Lab
Thanks for your anwser, isn't there any way? Even with older versions for Esxi and Windows Server?
testing jumbo frames causes host to disconnect from vcenter.
We have an "HCI' device that allows external iscsi connections, but the only requirement is they also use jumbo frames, otherwise, I wouldn't bother. Everything between the esxi host and the storage are all enabled for jumbo frames. The weird thing is if I try to test it with this command
vmkping -I vmk3 -s 8972 10.14.2.16 -d
the host disconnects from vCenter, I can't access the host ip address, all I can do is restart the host to get access again. I'm going to go through the logs but I don't understand why this would even occur when I'm trying to just use one vmkernel adapter. The other adapters are still at 1500MTU, and my understanding is they can stay that way?

Re: Assistance on Home Lab
Older versions of ESXi are going to make it more difficult and not easier. Same thing with Windows Server. If you had a server-class hardware or even better desktop hardware it may be possible. Your desktop cannot run ESXi natively so you're forced to run Workstation. Same thing with your laptop. So you've already lost resources right there. ESXi will have to be nested. Then you'd need to run VMs on nested ESXi. 16 GB just isn't enough for either machine to get all these things set up and running even poorly. You're welcome to try, but you're going to have to make some concessions somewhere to make it work (not use Windows Server; not install Veeam in a VM; not have Windows 7 nested; etc.).
Re: Can I clean up my vmdk files?
Hi,
I see Ulli replied now already, I tried to reply this morning, but the forum software refused to post the answer.
Here it is, perhaps it still helps a bit.
The <vmname>-000001-<sliceNN>.vmdk files are indeed snapshot files.
You have 1 snapshot, consisting of up to 32 disk slices.
Note that if you try to delete any of those files in Finder, you _will_ break your VM and are taking a real risk in having severe data loss.
You don't really mention that these files are all from the same VM, but in case they are the following advice applies.
Also you didn't mention the size of your virtual disk, but if your virtual disk is under 640GB in size and you have about 30 GB of free disk space then you can safely commit the open snapshot via the snapshot manager in VMware Fusion.

Fresh install of ESXi 6.0.0 - Can't get past root login
Hello,
I just did an install of ESXi 6.0.0 on a HP DL360p gen8 server. No errors during the install, but I can't login now. I hit F2, get to the login screen with root as the User, none of the passwords I have tried from Googling this gets me in.
Keyboard shows as US Default, I am using a keyboard connected to a USB port on the server.
Tried:
root
changeme
12345
123456
left it blank
admin
I have also tried these passwords with admin and administrator as the User.
Any suggestions?
Re: Fresh install of ESXi 6.0.0 - Can't get past root login
How exactly did you install ESXi?
The default/interactive CD-ROM based installation will ask you to provide your own root password.

Re: Fresh install of ESXi 6.0.0 - Can't get past root login
I installed it from a CD, made from the VMware-ESXi-6.0.0-Update3-9313334-HPE-preGen9-600.9.8.5.4-Sep2018.iso
Went to Intelligent Configuration on the server, then used the Install OS feature.
I read that it is supposed to ask for you to provide one, but I have done it twice and it doesn't ask.
If you can point me to a different ISO image I can try that. Nothing newer than 6.5 Update 2 (I think that is the latest that would work on the server.
Thanks for any help.
