Detaching Storage Device - "Detach" not present

Hi everyone. Thank you in advance for your help!

I'm trying to detach a LUN from our environment.  I've been following the instructions here:  VMware Knowledge Base

Overall, things have been progressing well.  VM's have been moved off of the datastore.  There were no residual templates or files.

I was able to unmount the datastore from both (we only have 2) esxi hosts.  The datastore now shows "inactive" in our VCenter. (so far so good)

Now I'm trying to detach the devices before I can go back to the SAN and un-present the storage.

My issue is that "detach" is not even an option for the device.  Instead, my options are "Edit partitions, Clear Partition Table, or Rescan"

I've not yet found anything which would explain why this is.  Any thoughts as to what I either did wrong or how I can get the "detach" option?

Environment Overview widget selection of object gone after the refresh interval in Vrops Dashboard.

We are using VROPS 7.0, In the custom dashboard we are using Environment Overview widget . If we selected the particular object in the widget, the selection will be lost after the refresh interval.

Is this a widget issue or something need to be done at our end to maintain selection after the refresh interval?

Vmware Horizon client installation failed

Hi,

 

I am trying to install VMWare Horizon Coient 4.10 in my computer(Windows 7 64bit), but it is not installing and always saying as "Install failed". when i check the log file it is showing the below error.

 

Attempting to query service: VMUSBArbService

Service could not be opened: ERROR_SERVICE_DOES_NOT_EXIST

 

Also my system is getting hung after the failure install, i need to power off the system manually. Please help.

The cause of the problem could be that the built-in network config of Ubuntu 18.04 no longer uses the NIC Mac address as the default id for DHCP requests.

The traditional (and I believe "sensible") behavior can be restored by adding dhcp-identifier: macto the configuration in the /etc/netplan/xxx.yaml (cloud-init) file as follows:

network: renderer: networkd version: 2 ethernets: nicdevicename: dhcp4: true dhcp-identifier: mac

Where "nicdevicename" is the name of your network device

Use

sudo netplan apply

to try the new configuration. If you get any errors, please note that precise indentation is very important in .yaml files..

Здравствуйте, хочу сделать 2 разные подсети на 4 виртуалках. Подскажите как можно настроить сеть в данном случае, с условием что ip  для двух машин 192.168.242.5 а для других двух 192.168.242.10. И получается в одной подсети должны быть 2 машины  с такими адресами 192.168.242.10; 192.168.242.5 и в другой также. После настройки планировала соединить эти подсети через vpn.

ESXi lost management network ip (realesed in DHCP)

I have a vSphere host (ESXi 6.7 U2) on which i currently have a VM running.

Both have their own IP (via DHCP)

Currently I have a problem that the host loses the management connection (IP is released on dhcp).

The VM is still reachable.

The problem is, I don't know how to prevent the host from being unreachable.

Vmware 6.5 fails to assign an ip for a linux vm if the network adapter is invalid

  I am using vmware sdk to create a  linux vm(ubuntu) on vmware 6.5 by specifying a network adapter, which is an invalid value input wrongly.

The network adapter should be vmxnet3, but it is written as vmxnet 3. After the vm is created, I found the network adapter is not what is specified,

instead it is E1000. Besides, whenever I specify an un-existed network adapter to a vm, the vm will fail to get ip after it started.

  However, if I directly specify E1000 for a vm, it can successfully get an ip.

I want to know the root cause for this problem. Could anyone help me?

Mount problem - file instead of folder

Hello,

 

I use VMware Pro (14.0.0 build-6661328) to manage Ubtuntu 18.04 LTS.

 

The path /mnt/hgfs/server shows a shared folder (over VMware) with a lot of files. Now I created a directory "/home/chef/Desktop/synology/" which I want to combine with /mnt/hgfs/server.

 

I tried this:

sudo mount -t fuse.vmhgfs-fuse .host:/mnt/hgfs/server /home/chef/Desktop/synology/

 

Now the folder "synology" is a file which can't be opened. With normal clicks over the desktop it shows "This location could not be displayed. You do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents of "synology"". What could be wrong?

 

 

This also didn't worked:

 

sudo mount -t cifs .host:/mnt/hgfs/W /home/chef/Desktop/synology/

I can overview it the latest VMWare update does not contain much more than the processor microcode update. So if you have been up to date before thewella BIOS update of the server should be enough. However in case of the VMWare update you need to do the update to see what actually has been changed.

Hi,

 

Welcome to VMTN.

 

Try opening vCenter in another browser and see if you get the detach option.

If no, then check below

- If on any host in cluster, the datastore is set as Swap file location.

- If on any host in cluster, the datastore is updated in Agent VM settings.

vSPC ( virtual serial port concentrator appliance)

Создал последовательный порт

В качестве vSPC используется cisco 3660 + NM8A/S (Migration of virtual machine with remote serial port connected is not possible unless a Virtual Serial port Concentrator appliance is used)

Все работает.

При выполнении миграции возникает ошибка: "The virtual Serial Port Concentrator Appliance connected to this virtual machine does not support migration".

Понятно, что устройство vSPC должно выполнять рекомендации, изложенные в "vsp41_usingproxy_virtual_serial_ports.pdf"

 

Подскажите, пожалуйста, где взять список устройств и(или) прошивок (IOS), которые поддерживают данные рекомендации.

Normally when you try to install Appvolumes manager it will try and create a database on the SQL server you selected. Because it tries to do this with a computer account (the service start as local service I believe) you should make sure that the computer account has correct permissions. I would remove the manager installation, reinstall it and select overwrite database if available. Normally this should do the trick.

 

Only do this if this is an empty database!!

vSphere Web Console and broken console link

Hello, we hace a corporate enviroment and we only can access to vCenter web access with limited privileges.

 

I can't open a VM console with vCenter Web Console, using my laptop because, the console link is broken.

 

How can i fix this problem?

We also did some test runs on the storage (we are using a HNAS) and when looking at statistics it seems to all work well..

Strange thing is that we don;t see things that need to be done in just a few milliseconds take a lot longer but it seems as if it just randomly hangs and does nothing anymore. You can see a file action on a config file taking up to 30 seconds for no apparent reason (at least not to our knowledge).

 

Still looking into it..

Я подключаюсь к Vcentr при помощи администратора Vcentr.

При проверки подключения к Vcentr все ок, а вот при проверки виртуальной машины ругается что учетная запись не прошла проверку. 

Я так понимаю в дальнейшем надо будет создать учетку с ограниченными правами для выполнения бэкапов. Вот только какие права нужны будт для бэкапов, но это вопрос дальнейшего.

are you trying this from webclient or html client(vsphere client)

Another option is to open a browser connect the the ESXi host directly and try to detach the device.

 

you can try command line also command available in the same KB

 

esxcli storage core device set --state=off -d NAA_ID

It is recommended to set a static IP on the ESXi host.

Does the IP on the ESXi changes?
